OUTREACH

In the year 2022 the Matric Thrift movement started from a Youth group wanting to give back to the community. Cultivating a culture of serving amongst the youth, where one is to get the youth involved in setting up and volunteer on the night.

Thus, the Matric Thrift outreach started to assist matriculates who cannot afford their matric ball outfit and for them to celebrate the closing chapter of their 12-year journey of schooling.  Heart is for the matriculant to experience shopping for their own outfit, therefore it is emphasising that the event is for matriculates, and parents can not come on behalf of their children.

"Going to your matric ball is a celebration of the last 12 years that you have been at school and this thrift store takes a lot of pressure off single parents, grandparents, aunts or anyone who lives with a matriculant,” said organiser Kelly Morkel.

Shoppers can choose from dresses, suits, shoes, ties, jewellery, clutch bags and shirts. The bonus is, you get to keep the clothes.

“It is purely matrics who can choose their outfits, nobody can come and buy clothes,” cautions Morkel.
